Town of Salem is a role-playing game based on the Mafia card game. It’s a multiplayer game that tests players on their ability to manipulate lies: lie convincingly, and expose lies by circumstantial evidence.
The game involves from 7 to 15 players. Players are randomly divided into: townspeople, mafiosi, serial killers, arsonists and neutrals. The task of the townspeople – good guys – is to catch murderers and arsonists – bad guys – even before how the latter did their dirty deeds – they killed someone or set fire to someone’s house.
The task of the bad guys – killers and arsonists – is to ruin the city and kill all its inhabitants.
Neutrals can be drawn into the game by two sides of the conflict – on the side of evil or good.
What is the difficulty? That the players do not know who is who. The general principle for all: under the cover of darkness, bad guys commit crimes, during the day, good guys pursue and expose criminals.
Players communicate with each other via text messages.
The success of the players depends on their ability to collect – extort – information, analyze and correlate it with the personal qualities of the players – real people.
