What is Termux?
Termux is a powerful terminal emulator and Linux operating system environment adapted for Android. The application transforms your smartphone or tablet into a full-fledged pocket computer for programming, network administration, and learning, and does not require Root permissions for basic operation.
Key features of Termux:
- Full-fledged command line: Enjoy working in the popular shells Bash and Zsh, using familiar Linux commands.
- Programming on the go: Use your smartphone to write code. Compilers and interpreters are available for Python, C++, Node.js, Ruby, Go, Rust, and PHP.
- Powerful text editors: Edit code and configurations with the legendary Vim, Emacs, or the simple and clear Nano.
- Developer tools: Manage project versions with Git, connect to remote servers via SSH client (OpenSSH), and use build tools.
- Entertainment and learning: Run text games (via Frotz), utilities for ASCII graphics, or experiment with cybersecurity tools (Nmap, Metasploit).
How it works:
When Termux is installed, it deploys a basic system. The APT (or PKG) package manager, familiar to Debian and Ubuntu users, is used to install additional software. This allows you to install, update, and remove programs with a single command, automatically resolving dependencies.
Management and interface:
- Context menu: A long press in any area of the terminal brings up a menu for copying/pasting text, customizing styles, and opening additional sessions.
- Additional keys: The application emulates the Ctrl, Alt, Esc, and arrow keys needed to work in the console.
Termux has a huge developer community. You can find help, scripts, and tips on GitHub, Reddit, and in specialized project Wiki sections.
